We ran into a small group of people and my brother decided to tell them the story about a mishap I'd had many years ago. It was back when I was a teenager. I was hanging out with my friends and we were drinking and someone had a handgun with them. At some point I got a hold of the gun, and I randomly fired six rounds out the window laughing. Well, it turns out that this kid that I had gone to school with was out for a walk that night, enjoying the nice summer air. The bullet caught him right through the neck. I shook my head in regret and told the group, "If you ever shoot a gun, make sure that you're always aiming a specific target and you're shooting directly at it. Never fire aimlessly out a window."
Disclaimer: This is a good time to remind everyone that this blog is a dream journal. I have never fired a gun OR punctured any necks... as far I know.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad of your disclaimer. I've been watching Taken, and Skyfall lately, and though they are each in their way dream journals (kind of) they have made me think a lot about the poorly-aimed firing of guns, the accidental weapons-capability of cars, bulldozers and tube-trains and so forth by heroes focused on eliminating their enemy.
ReplyDeleteIn my non-dreaming world, which like yours involves no lethal weaponry, your dream-anecdote has its own metaphorical significance, all the same.
Even in the most innocent of pursuits I must be alert to the possibility that i might cause collateral damage.
Taken and Taken 2, I meant to say, in addition to the excellent Skyfall.
ReplyDeletel definitely want to see that Skyfall movie. I was never a huge Bond fan, but I really like that Casino Royale that came out a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteMy bother once taught me never to chamber a bullet while pointing the gun at anything alive. He explained why it is unsafe even if you know there is not a bullet already chambered, as he did. He then pointed the gun away from anything alive, and shot his waterbed.
ReplyDeleteWell that sounds like an expensive way to make a point.
